Portrait of the artist, published in Vogue.

Angela Cappetta is a US-based documentary photographer.

Her practice moves between long-form personal projects and commissioned work, grounded in lens-based photography, flash, and an unmediated approach to daily life.

She works primarily with analog film and also uses digital when the project calls for it. Her focus remains consistent: people and the stories that need telling.

Selected work and recognition

Her work is held and collected by institutions including the MoMA Library, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the New York Public Library.

She has received fellowships and support from the MacDowell Colony, the American Academy in Rome, and the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Editorial and press include features in The New Yorker, W Magazine, Blind Magazine, Dazed, Vogue, and Marie Claire, among others.

Earlier in her career, she worked alongside photographers including Mary Ellen Mark, Graciela Iturbide, and Arthur Elgort.

Work

Alongside long-term personal projects, she photographs assignments in New York City and beyond, including weddings, family events, portraits, and cultural documentation. These projects share the same documentary foundation as her fine art work, even when commissioned.

Teaching

She also teaches and mentors photographers working in analog and documentary practices.
